Along with your summer wardrobe, you may find yourself stashing away your sunscreen, until the warmer weather graces us yet again. This is a big mistake.

Just because you aren’t feeling the warmth from the sun’s rays doesn’t mean it isn’t still affecting your skin. The sun’s UV rays are more powerful than you realize, and this is why SPF should be a staple year round, and not only during summer. In fact, did you know that only 25% of UV rays are reflected off sand, whereas a whopping 80% is reflected off snow? Now you know why snowboarders and skiers have that impressive tan (minus the goggle lines!)

This means SPF is even more important in places that receive a dumping of snow each year! If you find yourself in a winter wonderland at this time of year, then keep reading for a few tips on protecting your skin during the frosty season.

Don’t Rely On One Application

You may apply your sunscreen in the morning and then think you’re golden for the rest of the day. If you are participating in any winter activities, then you will sweat throughout the day, which will cause your sunscreen to slide off. This means it is vital that you reapply your sunscreen throughout your day to keep your skin protected. Opt for at least SPF 30 for the best protection.

Know the Difference

Physical sunblocks block out UV rays and contain natural ingredients, whereas chemical sunscreens absorb rays, and can be irritating thanks to various chemicals.

Physical sunblocks may be a little messier to apply, but they are safer for your health and offer better protection year round too.

Enjoy Foods That Offer Natural UV protection

Certain foods offer protection against UV rays from the inside out, how amazing is that? Vitamin C rich foods, as well as foods rich in other antioxidants such as pomegranates, blueberries, leafy greens and tomatoes are excellent choices to reduce inflammation and fight free radicals all day long.
